| WHAT LIES BENEATH |
2000 - USA
Director: Robert Zemeckis - Reviewed by Tom Harrison
Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer star in one of the most Hitchcock-type movies I have
seen in a long time. They play Norman and Claire Spencer who live in a
house that seems to be haunted by spooks that are constantly tormenting Claire, nearly driving her to insanity. She thinks she sees the new
neighbor kill his wife one night and then sets out to try to find the truth of
what happened.
During this time, there is a ghost in the house that seems to be distracting her from the task. Norman is never home since he is involved with his job as a college professor, and Claire is home alone in the empty nest since their daughter has just left for college. Later we find out that Claire had been in a bad accident the year before and has memories missing from the previous year during her recovery. Let's just say that Norman was up to no good during that time (rather than describing a huge spoiler)! The movie does a good job creating some creepy scenes, the best one involves mixture of a paralyzing drug, slow running water, a bathtub, and of course a crazy bloody husband. The movie is good, but not the greatest. But I would definitely recommend this as a good rainy-weekend matinee movie. |
