Slade Craven (John Mann III) is a burned-out goth rocker who looks very much like Marilyn Manson. He is performing his final concert on board a highly modified 747 on the way across the country to Los Angeles with 200 of his greatest fans as passengers. The concert is being broadcast live on the internet for fans who have paid $10 to watch on their computers. Craven gets whacked as he goes backstage and is replaced by an identical (but much more evil) imposter who takes over the plane and kills a few people including the pilot (of course!). The copilot (Rutger Hauer) is also no-good: "Craven's music reminds me of being in 'Nam," he commented to the ill-fated captain as they took off. The hijacker and copilot are members of some Satanic church in Kansas into which they are planning to dive the 747. Oh, I should mention they are also flying through a pretty wicked thunderstorm also! Meanwhile, on the ground, this Scully-wannabe FBI agent finally tracks down a famous hacker who she has been chasing for many years. Being a computer geek herself, she quickly forgets she is supposed to arrest the guy when she is distracted by the size of his hard-drive. Of course hacker boy is a Craven fan and had hacked into the server to get live feed from all the cameras and sees the hijacking happen. After convincing the FBI that he needs both hands to type, she removes the handcuffs. There's some fighting, chatting with the FAA and the usual things, then the goth rocker wakes up from his beating, beats the crap out of the bad guys and takes control of the plane. The hacker then boots up his copy of Flight Simulator and talks goth boy out of the sky to a safe landing, talking him down the whole way. "Some people play Nintendo games, I play Flight Simulator," he explains to the FBI. Hmmmm... with a control tower full of pilots, the FAA lets a non-pilot hacker talk him down with Flight Simulator? My excuse for 2 slices:
1 sliceThe movie was so bad it was funny! This movie was so bad it was fun. If the movie was any better, it would have only deserved 1 pie slice. |
