Simon Birch is about a very small kid who was born in a small town in the mid-1950s. He is kind of a very small, squirrel-like, dwarf/midget kid with a very small and mousy voice!

Most of the adults think he is some kind of freak and torment him constantly (it is actually kind of disturbing how they treat him). There is a pretty harsh scene where the Sunday school teacher keeps him after class. The tiny boy is sitting on a chair while the teacher walks around him saying horrible things to him after he made a pretty funny outburst during the sermon. The scene quickly changes when his best friend's mother (played by Ashley Judd) comes into the room and pretty much rips the teacher a new asshole! (Yes, even in a "nice" movie, Ashley kicks ass. Woo-hoo!!!!).  Judd's character is one of the few adults that really care for the Simon, and Simon spends most of his time with her son at their house since his real parents treat him like a freak and don't pay any attention to him.

Judd's character actually only has a small part in the movie (I won't say anymore about it—spoiler!).  Also, there is a VERY brief appearance by Jim Carrey in the movie, too.

Basically, this movie is almost identical to The Mighty... so without giving away too many spoilers for this movie, go back and re-read the review of that movie for an idea of how this movie is. The movie does have some interesting twists in the plot so it is almost hard to review it without giving away some of the good parts!

I liked the movie. It had plenty of humor in it and just seeing the small guy making fun of himself was amusing. Of course a movie like this has a sad ending, but if there is ever a Moviepie category for NICE movies this one would be high on the list.
