| PRELUDE TO A KISS |
1992
- USA
Director: Norman René - Reviewed by Kerri I didn't pay much attention to this film when it came out, and it's
certainly not the most engaging movie out there, but on the second viewing I detected a sweetness about it that made me want more. The plot was a little
confusing at first, but overall I think it's a good film.
Meg Ryan plays an insomniac bartender named Rita who meets Peter (Alec Baldwin), and they quickly fall in love, get married, and go on their honeymoon. But something supernatural and strange happened somewhere along that process, and Rita isn't the same girl she was before the wedding. As the mystery unfolds, Peter and Rita must find themselves and their places in the world, and as they do, they discover each other's secrets as well. The movie is an adaptation of a play by Craig Lucas, and Alec Baldwin actually played the same role on the New York stage. Some may find the plot twist hard to follow, and the dreamy, slow cinematography a bit trying. Still, it rounds out a Meg Ryan collection quite nicely. |
