Meet the ParentsThe title alone stirs up anxiety for anyone who's been in that situation. The new Jay Roach (Austin Powers) movie takes a slapstick view of, to many, the most pivotal point in a relationship.

Based on the 1992 quasi-short feature (74 mins.) by Mary Ruth Clarke and Greg Glienna, Ben Stiller plays Greg Focker (there is no shortage of jokes with that name...) on the brink of proposing Pam Byrnes (Teri Polo). Upon meeting Pam's parents, everything Greg does to impress them winds up in some form of disaster.

Ben Stiller again portrays well the guy who will never be good enough for the girl. Robert DeNiro gives an excellent effort as Pam's scary over-bearing dad. Talent like Blythe Danner and Owen Wilson are wasted in the background as Pam's mom and ex.

Beyond a few humorous moments, the film doesn't shake off it's nice-and-cute packaging. If you haven't ever experienced any Irene Dunne/Cary Grant comedies of yore, you might enjoy it... otherwise, wait 'til you can rent it.
