| THE IRON GIANT |

I was thinking that this one would be like some of those Japanese anime movies, but found it was very different in a good way. I guess it was similar to the Japanese movies I saw recently in that it had a war theme. Although, war was more of a threat in this movie rather than being the main plot. One thing that I found was fabulous was the quality of the sound and animation. The animation was some of the smoothest I have seen (not counting the Disney ones that I try to avoid... singing and Nazi-marching rodents bother me). It kind of reminded me of E.T. in a way, since the kid tried to hide the giant from the adults and the Army which wanted to turn him into scrap. As usual, there was just the small group that could be trusted to meet the giant. I thought it would have one of those horrible, depressing Japanese endings, but no, this was an American movie! The ending turned out happy, and as usual, it was open to a sequel—another American tradition. * If you see the DVD version, there is extra stuff included where they interview the actors, and also show how the movie was made. |
