InnerspaceFor being a cheesy sci-fi movie, this flick was actually pretty entertaining and somewhat funny. It's a weird combobulation of War Games, Terminator 2, Tron, Honey I Shrunk The Kids, and the Bodywars ride at Disneyworld. To call it sci-fi is probably an insult to true science fiction, but as a light-hearted futuristic story this passes the test.

This was the set in which Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid met and fell in love; after watching Quaid's smile throughout the thought occurred to me that he's single now. Hmmm. Anyway, Quaid plays some lieutenant of the army named Tuck who's about to engage in a highly secretive experiment. A very young Ryan plays his girlfriend, Lydia. Martin Short plays Jack, a stressed-out supermarket clerk who unwittingly becomes part of this experiment.

This is where the details drop off. For some reason the military is experimenting with miniaturizing Tuck and inserting him into a rabbit. Some bad guys (we don't know who) decide to sabotage the experiment, mayhem ensues in a shopping mall, and the syringe containing Tuck in miniature gets poked into Jack's ass. There's some scary guy running around with an arm that has attachments and a crazy doctor who's got an agenda of her own.

The amusement starts as Jack, who can hear Tuck and vice versa, engages Lydia's help in rescuing Tuck from the body and the bad guys. The technical details are hazy and there's a lot of cheesy techno-babble and robots who do the work, buttons on the wall that almost are blatantly marked "miniturize me!", and the like. However, if you suspend belief and go with the flow, the movie is cute and engaging. I was pleasantly surprised.
