Flesh and BoneThis is a masterful work that really draws you in from the start. The story is twisted and haunting and the acting is beautiful. The desolate Texas landscape lays the background for a story that leaves you on the edge of your seat.

Kay (Meg Ryan) plays a woman escaping a life of abuse, whose actions are influenced by some hidden past that she is not even aware of. Something is missing in her life, something terribly wrong that intersects with her adult life in ways she doesn't realize. Arlis (Dennis Quaid) is a cowboy trying to lead an honest life after a childhood of crime led by his father (James Caan). When Arlis meets Kay, their lives intertwine in a way they can't understand, and only when Arlis' father reappears and reminds him of one fateful night in the past, does Arlis realize who Kay is and how the past can catch up to you.

Part mystery, part romance, and part thriller, this movie is sure to grasp you in its entanglement. The performances are delicious, especially in Arlis' and Kay's interactions (Quaid and Ryan were married when this was made, of course); the other characters are scum you learn to hate in the first 10 minutes. An all-around good film, it's a departure for Ryan, and definitely worth a second or third look.
