The Internet Movie Database

The IMDb is the godfather of all movie sites! This is where we get our most basic information about films: director, year, country, name of film in original language, actors, etc. It is a fantastic site, and is a great way to cheat the next time you play Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.

Landmark Theatres

This is easily the coolest chain of urban movie theaters around. Their national site is nifty, as it has highlights of upcoming foreign and art-house flicks, as well as an excellent links section. The local site for Landmark's Seven Gables Theatres is a great source for updated movie showtimes and info about what's playing in Seattle theaters.

Cinema Seattle

The main site for the group that puts on the Seattle International Film Festival and Women in Cinema film festival has lots of cool archive info about films they've shown in the past. Plus it is the first place with the scoop on line-ups for upcoming film festivals. Cinema Seattle only costs as little as $25 a year for a membership that gives you a lot of goodies... so support your local film scene!

Ebert & Roeper

Roger Ebert, Mr. Thumbs Up himself, continues the legacy that he and his late-partner Gene Siskel made into an American institution. Ebert now has a new sparring buddy, Richard Roeper, and this site has audio archives of their reviews from their television show. Best with a fast connection for the streaming media.

Popcorn Q

PlanetOut, a national gay/lesbian website, has a treasure trove of movie and video reviews in their Popcorn Q movie section, as well as lots of good info about upcoming gay/lesbian film festivals across the US and Canada. Their reviews are a tad bit soft (they tend to like a movie just because it is gay-themed, even if it is crap), but it is a great resource for searching for queer-themed films, as it includes both highbrow and lowbrow movies. They also review mainstream Hollywood releases, queer-themed or not.

Scarecrow Video

Roger Ebert claimed once that Scarecrow is the best video store in the country... And where else would it be except in our very own Seattle! They've got tens of thousands of movies to rent: anything from the most popular films, to the most obscure, out-of-print, foreign, and hard-to-find flicks. The first time Linda went to the store, she was so overwhelmed that she left empty-handed and had to lie down for the rest of the day. Scarecrow is also an excellent source for tracking down those hard-to-find videos, DVDs, and laserdiscs to purchase. If it is in print, they'll find it for you.

Movie Review Query Engine

Movie Review Query EngineThe Movie Review Query Engine is probably the most expansive archive of movie reviews on the internet. Their database links to hundreds of websites with reviews (including Moviepie!), giving you a movie review resource like no other. If you find that you don't agree with Moviepie, or simply can't find the review you are looking for, MRQE is certainly a great place to start!

Movie Review Index.com

Giving the MRQE a run for its money, the Movie Review Index is the latest monster searchable database where you can find English-language movie reviews from across the globe. They have an especially strong collection of Asian cinema reviews.

FilmFestivals.com

FilmFestivals.com This is a groovy site for all of us who wish we could go to Cannes or Sundance or Toronto, but, well, just aren't rich and famous with disposable incomes. FilmFestivals.com has a nifty database of all the buzzed-about unreleased flicks that are burning up the film festival circuit. A lot of fun to browse!
