so far (two days in) i've seen seven films...which is a tad behind the usual number i'd have racked up by this point.
the worst (so far, anyway) was "be my star," a directionless german-austrian film about young teenagers and their relationships. thank god it was only an hour and five minutes long because it was rip-my-eyes-out-of-my-head dull.
the most flat-out entertaining flick (again, so far) was "waterboys," a hysterically slapstick japanese movie about high school boys who decide to organize a synchronized swimming team. think: "bad news bears," but japanese and in a pool.
still on deck for later this week: "world traveler" (julianne moore's new one), "lovely and amazing" (starring the lovely and amazing catherine keener), "serendipity" (which you've all heard of), "picture claire" (with gina gershon) and "lilith on top," the documentary about lilith fair. plus a whole bunch more that my mildly frazzled brain is having trouble remembering offhand.
oh, and i just got home from the world premiere of "prozac nation," which was...hard to pin down. it was good, but in that kind of weirdly good and borderline-average way. i liked it, but didn't love it. the cast was in attendance and christina ricci is *tiiiny*. richard roeper sat in front of me and roger ebert was two rows back. a somewhat smelly man sat next to me.
early start again tomorrow: "novocaine," starring steve martin and helena bonham carter, at 9:30am.
p.s. i also saw "hearts in atlantis" (anthony hopkins) this morning. it was very sweet and sentimental, especially considering it came from a stephen king novel. then again, "the shawshank redemption" was the same way. okay, NOW i can go to sleep.
