Sun AlleyCan you imagine living in East Berlin in the 70's? Now, can you imagine anything funny about that situation? The filmmakers did. They have been able to put together a refreshing look at the region and time in this coming-of-age story. The story revolves around Micha (Alexander Scheer), his friends and family, who all live just a few feet away from the Berlin Wall and who are all just a little bit quirky.

There is the realization that kids in the East were no different from those in the West— like the universal quest for a black market copy of the new Rolling Stones album. Like every 16-year-old boy, Micha is determined to get the attention of the girl whom he is obsessed with, and wants to make his mark in the world. Unfortunately, he has to do this under the watchful eye of "Big Brother". He is taunted by his Western counterparts, but he easily makes light of their tormenting and often turns it around on them.

I was pleasantly surprised with Sun Alley and will see it again when and if it gets picked up for distribution. You should too...
