Celebrating its 10th year, the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival boldly extended the length of its festival, and spanned two full weekends for the first time. In a year where hot topics political discussions of gay rights was all over mainstream media, it seemed only fitting that the fest's selections featured more diverse topics than usual.
This year, impressively there was a fine selection of film featuring the oft-ignored transgender and transsexual folks, including the high-profile Closing Night film Transamerica, starring Felicity Huffman of TV's smash hit Desperate Housewives. There were also a number of docs addressing trans topics, such as 100% Human, Call Me Malcolm, and 100% Woman.
As usual, the Brits had several fine features, including the adapatation of Sarah Waters' Fingersmith (her Tipping the Velvet was a hit of SLGFF 2003), and the retiree-romance When I'm 64. Plus, in honor of the fest's 10th year, they featured past festival hits like Beautiful Thing and The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love, as well as focused on the heyday of the 70s.
