SEATTLE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

May 25-June 16, 2006

Strangers With Candy[May 25, 2006]It is that time again... as soon as soon as we start getting hints of summer weather here in Seattle, we all run indoors. The Seattle International Film Festival is back, boasting more movies than ever, and an increased amount of venues. For the first time ever, SIFF moves to the Eastside, with screenings in Bellevue, for those who can't make it across the bridge because of rush-hour gridlock (believe me, I sympathize). Lincoln Square is the host, and we'll bet these added screenings (always duplicated in Seattle, for the suburb-phobic) will be a roaring success.

After a daring and quirky Opening Night film last year, SIFF resorts back to the old standby of historic romance with The Illusionist (starring Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti, and Jessica Biel). But we'll forgive them for scooping Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep for Closing Night. But as for the big galas, we are not ashamed to say we are most excited about the long-awaited big screen version of Strangers With Candy, based on Amy Sedaris' Comedy Central show that was so very wrong that it was so very right.

So, let's get SIFF'n!

  Moviepie's SIFF Reviews

Recommended! A red arrow means that we rated the movie six (out of eight) slices or better.

The numbers following the title show our rating of the film; i.e. (5/8), means five out of a possible eight slices.

[Be sure to keep checking back! As the festival rolls along, we'll post our ratings, and eventually reviews, for as many films as we can stand!]
