It's a Wrap!
[June 14,
2004] Whew! After 25 days, and over 200 feature films from 50 countries, the the 30th Annual Seattle
International Film Festival finally closed with a new record for attendance. Under the new leadership of Festival Director Helen
Loveridge and Director of Programming Carl Spence the festival had record
box-office – up 20% over last year’s ticket sales. Loveridge said, “The exceptional dedication of our year
round and festival staff and their attention to detail contributed greatly to
our most successful year yet.”
In a ceremony held on Sunday June 13th, the last day of the fest, the Golden Space Needle Award winners were announced. Determined by popular audience vote, of over 70,000 ballots, awards were
given in six different categories, including the Stellar Artois Best Film,
Stellar Artois Best Documentary, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best
Short Film.
A little less ceremoniously, the Fool Serious Awards were also announced. Completely independent from the Golden Space Needle Awards, the Fool Serious voters are a group of full series passholders that have their own voting system and categories. This year, there were 193 ballots turned in, with voters weighing in on such categories as Best Cinematographer and Best Guilty Pleasure, as well awarding the standard awards such as Most Liked films, Best Actor, and Best Actress.
