My First Mister Oftentimes, when you pair up a young girl and an older man, the result can be kind of… well… icky. I’m happy to say that My First Mister took another path.

"J" (Leelee Sobieski) is a 17-year-old L.A. goth chick who writes creative suicide notes to express her creativity. "R" (Albert Brooks) is a 49-year-old menswear store owner who leads a very structured life and always seems to have everything in place. The two meet when J goes to the Century City mall to look for work, but instead stumbles onto something a bit more intriguing. The two build an unorthodox friendship that’s more like family, but J holds deeper feelings....

Leelee Sobieski takes on a role that is directly opposite of her squeaky-clean image and pulls off the rebel and social outcast quite convincingly. Albert Brooks reaches pretty deep to find the dramatic actor that lives somewhere under the comedian. There is a good mix of comedy and drama that makes for fine storytelling.
