Hedwig and the Angry InchWhat can you say about something so original that you have no choice but to see it over and over? Hedwig and the Angry Inch is the film adaptation of the Off-Broadway hit of the same name, which tells the tale of an East German transsexual who is shadowing the tour of the man who stole her music. He’s playing the big stadiums and she is playing local Sizzler-type restaurants. A musician’s nightmare, trust me….

Originally, Hedwig ends up in the U.S. after falling in love with an American GI, who would only marry young Hansel if he underwent a sex change and changed his name. Unfortunately, the operation did not go as expected and the newly-dubbed Hedwig was left with an “angry inch”. To top this off, her husband decided to run of with another man after returning to the Kansas trailer park that they settled into. Left on her own, she turned to musical expression and started off on her meteoric rise to musical obscurity. (Oh my gawd, from East Berlin to a trailer park in tornado alley? Run Hedwig, run!)

The story is told in a Rock Opera style that combines storytelling with musical numbers that convey the gamut of emotions. You’ll laugh, you’ll shake your booty and you may even shed a tear, but either way, you will have a good time.
