Drat! I hate it when I'm excited about the concept of a movie, and it lets you down! I mean, a HAREM at the end of the Ottoman Empire, fer cryin' out loud! How could it NOT be interesting? <*snore*>

 Safiye, an Italian, um, "consort" at the Harem works it to be in the Sultan's favor, to be his number one girl (with the help of Nadir, an African Eunuch, whom she truly loves). She gets her wish, has the treasured son, but all the other women hate her because of this. Treachery, deceit, poisonings, a love story with no spark, blah blah blah. Very pretty, but boring boring boring.
