Judy is Cassandra Reilly, a globe-trotting American living in Barcelona that pays the bills with occasional translating jobs. She is contacted by a mysterious femme fatale (Marcia Gay Harden, having a field day with the role) who is in search of her "husband" who has disappeared into the city. For the paycheck, Cassandra takes the job, only to get embroiled in a gender-bending mystery that has her crossing paths with a passel of colorful characters (played by Lili Taylor and Juliette Lewis, among others). I mean, look at that cast right there. How could you go wrong? Lili Taylor doesn't really have much to do, and there are a few loose ends, but the characters (even Juliette Lewis!) had me guffawing to myself throughout the film, and that seems to be pretty rare these days at the movies. |
