Gaudi AfternoonYou know, I'm probably rating this one a bit high, but then again, I think this is Judy Davis' best comic performance since Husbands and Wives. Shoot, I'll admit it... I'd pay good money just to watch Judy eat cornflakes for two hours. But she is just so scrappy and disheveled in Gaudi Afternoon, with her bad clothes and funky glasses, that she is just adorable!

Judy is Cassandra Reilly, a globe-trotting American living in Barcelona that pays the bills with occasional translating jobs. She is contacted by a mysterious femme fatale (Marcia Gay Harden, having a field day with the role) who is in search of her "husband" who has disappeared into the city. For the paycheck, Cassandra takes the job, only to get embroiled in a gender-bending mystery that has her crossing paths with a passel of colorful characters (played by Lili Taylor and Juliette Lewis, among others).

I mean, look at that cast right there. How could you go wrong? Lili Taylor doesn't really have much to do, and there are a few loose ends, but the characters (even Juliette Lewis!) had me guffawing to myself throughout the film, and that seems to be pretty rare these days at the movies.
