It may still be summer, but the passing of Labor day always makes it feel as though fall is officially here. With kids heading back to school and days getting shorter, it's probably about time to see what's new on DVD this season. Angelina Ballerina and Thomas the Tank Engine are always favorites, and both are starring in feature length films of their own. In Angelina Ballerina: The Shining Star Trophy, our heroine and her pals take part in Camembert Academy's big talent show, but will Angelina spend so much time helping her friends that she won't have time to work on her own routine? Tune in to see who takes home the shining star trophy and play the bonus Talent Show Trivia Game. Adventure and calamity ensues for Thomas and friends when a fire on Sodor brings two fire-fighting engines to the island to help out. Soon Thomas is spending all of his time with his new friends, and Percy is hanging out at the Dieselworks. Little does he know he's about to become part of Diesel 10's evil scheme to take over the Steamworks. Bonus features include the "Fiery Flynn To The Rescue Game", karaoke songs, and a "Steamies and Diesels - Learn How They Work!" featurette.
Our pal Shaun the Sheep returns in Animal Antics for seven new adventures and a bonus Timmy Time short. And if you want to make your kids feel better about their artwork, you'll want them to check out Castle Farm, which totally looks as if it were drawn by a six year old. This peculiar but delightful show hails from England, and follows the adventures of Farm Girl, Piggy, and their barnyard friends as they learn and explore about the farm. Happy Valley is another bright and cheery series from England set in the countryside by the sea. The adventures of the people of Happy Valley are conveyed through nursery rhymes and songs.
Finally, for a more educational back-to-school experience, kids can learn about Families of Philippines and Families of Germany (available September 20th) in two new DVDs from Master Communications. These new additions to the Families of the World series depict the lives of children in each country (Khim and Shahani in the Philippines and Sophia and Ole in Germany), giving a sense of daily life in foreign lands.
