Though the hijinks are new and the look of the show is different than the original cartoons, they capture the feel of classic Looney Tunes so well that it's easy to fall right in.
Watching Looney Tunes was way up there on my list of favorite things to do when I was a kid. I loved the politically incorrect humor, the go-for-broke gags, and the motley cast of funny but flawed characters. Better yet, these goofy cartoons were so smart, so over the top, that they fully entertained my dad as well, making for a perfect father-daughter activity. You really don't outgrow Looney Tunes, but it is possible to exhaust the supply of new material. That's why it's extra awesome that Cartoon Network has revived our favorite characters for The Looney Tunes Show.
Each half hour episode contains two or three cartoons, including short revamped Merrie Melodies. For being a completely modernized offshoot of the original, they are stunningly good. The show finds our old pals Daffy Duck and Bugs Bunny sharing a house in the suburbs, interacting with familiar faces like Porky Pig, Speedy Gonzales, Granny, Sylvester, and Tweety. The Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote are still locked in a neverending chase, and even the more obscure characters like Marvin the Martian and Gossamer (the big orange hair monster in sneakers) frequently pop up. The humor is still more adult than childlike, and the storylines are as snappy as ever. Though the hijinks are new and the look of the show is different than the original cartoons, they capture the feel of classic Looney Tunes so well that it's easy to fall right in.
Season 1 Volume 2 of The Looney Tunes Show contains four complete episodes, including the excellent "Reunion" (wherein Daffy, believing he peaked in high school, attends his reunion with Bugs...only to discover he never peaked at all) and "Devil Dog" (which finds Bugs mistaking the Tasmanian Devil for a domestic dog. Hilarity and good times ensue, making this a must-have for Looney Tunes fans.
