This may not be your mom's Mickey Mouse, but this entertaining take on learning is classic Disney.
I am in my mid-thirties and I am old. It's not some Cosmo-made-me-feel-bad-about-my-body melodrama that evokes this comment, but rather the new Disney DVD Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Space Adventure. One look at the familiar Disney characters of my youth turned space-age through computer animation, and there's really only one way to feel: old. There must be a generation of kids who expect Mickey and his pals look all modern and high tech, but the idea of Mickey being anything other than hand animated left me in a state of shock. Geriatric shock.
I think it's safe to say that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse attempts to bring iconic Disney characters (instantly recognizable to parents) to today's hip, CG-accustomed kids. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but if you're looking for a nostalgia trip with Mickey and your little ones, this isn't quite going to do the trick. Instead, the tots are in for a lively feature-length space adventure with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy.
As our pals travel the galaxy in search of treasure they encounter Moon Men Chip 'n' Dale, a Martian version of Mickey, and Pluto from Pluto. They also run into Space Pirate Pete (recognizable as the dastardly villain from just about every other Mickey cartoon) who'd be more than happy to be the first to get his mitts on the treasure. Along the way they also explore the Moon, Mars, and Saturn, adding an educational element to the fun. This may not be your mom's Mickey Mouse, but this entertaining take on learning is classic Disney.
DVD NOTES
Extra features include the never-before-seen episode "Goofy's Thinking Cap", a digital copy, and GLOW IN THE DARK STICKERS. Did I mention the stickers? Because they are awe-some!
