The tween musical sensations the Jonas Brothers are not only ubiquitous these days, but they are also so darn clean! Regardless of how you feel about very skinny jeans, there is absolutely nothing offensive in this concert video that should appeal to their thousands of screaming fans.
I myself was just reminiscing about how when I was a tween (way back when), I graduated from an obsession with Thriller-era Michael Jackson, to Prince and his Purple Rain album. Don't fret that your 14-year-old girl will be exposed to shocking and graphic hijinks like I was with Prince (my mom was not pleased). These three brothers, Kevin, Joe and Nick, are so clean that when they see the throngs of people waiting for their midnight CD release in Times square, they cover their mouths in shock and say, "Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" Really!
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience should please fans, and for a movie like this, they are really the only ones that matter, aren't they? Clocking in at about 90 minutes, it is pretty much the length of a full concert, plus (at least for the Blu-Ray version) has the advantage (and fun) of the 3D gimmick... I mean experience. The Blu-Ray even comes with four sets of the red-and-blue old school 3D glasses, so you can experience the magic at home with a gaggle of squealing friends. (The Blu-Ray also includes a regular 2D DVD version of the film, plus a digital copy.) Despite the fun of seeing Joe point at the camera or guest Taylor Swift toss a guitar pick at your head, there is nothing you are really missing my opting for the 2D instead. But still, it is kind of fun seeing the camera swarm over the masses of hands waving in the air, as the audience is asked (yet again) to clap along to a song.
I won't even bother reviewing the music. It was all unfamiliar to me (as a cranky old lady that obviously prefers reminiscing about Michael Jackson and Prince), but it all seems to be pleasantly poppy, with a couple ditties like the climatic "Burning Up" sticking in my craw more than I'd like to admit. I'm still not exactly sure which Jonas Brother of the three is the cute one (I guessed wrong once, and was quickly scolded by a 10-year-old), but they all seem to be adored by their fans, and there doesn't seem to be a goofy Ringo among them. There isn’t a whole lot of footage other than the concert bits, so we don’t really get to see much other than their stage personalities. But we do get to see a lot of screaming girls, that’s for sure.
The Blu-Ray and DVD both include extras songs, plus a mini behind-the-scenes doc "Inside the Lives of the Jonas Brothers on Tour," about the making of the concert tour. It is narrated earnestly (and I must say charmingly) by the boys, as they reiterate again and again about how grateful they are for their success, and are eternally appreciate of their fans. Nice to see they aren't jaded yet, so it is rather sweet.
