It's all decent children's entertainment, but there's nothing particularly memorable or striking in this collection.
Volume 3 of the Disney Animation Collection was easily my least favorite of the lot. After enduring a rather generic retelling of "The Prince and The Pauper" starring Mickey Mouse and Mickey Mouse in the title roles. It gives you the weird impression that split screen technology was employed, even though no special effects would have been required to animate two Mickeys.
Next up is a visit from "The Pied Piper", a jaunty fellow who leads thousands of rats right out of town...and when the villagers prove ungrateful, he goes ahead and leads away their children. It's a creepy enough story in itself, but the animation of all those rats is so eerily realistic that I started getting the heebie-jeebies just watching them. It's not even their likeness that makes you want to scream, but rather their movements, which are captured just a little too well.
We travel back in time for an ancient version of "Old King Cole", then come back to more modern fare with "Ye Olden Days" (starring Mickey and Minnie Mouse) and "A Knight For A Day" (starring Goofy). It's all decent children's entertainment, but there's nothing particularly memorable or striking in this collection.
