Volume 2 of the Disney Amination Collection is easily one of the best in the bunch. From Disney's retelling of "The Three Little Pigs" (complete with the jolly little song "Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf") to the adorable "Elmer the Elephant", this is probably the most consistent disc of the six disc set.
"The Three Little Pigs" segues nicely into "The Big Bad Wolf", where our three intrepid piggies aid Little Red Riding Hood in outsmarting the wolf. Next up is "Three Little Wolves", who do their best to learn all about outsmarting pigs...with little success. We then move onto more varied fare with "Lambert the Sheepish Lion", an endearing cartoon about a lion cub raised by a devoted ewe. I've had the song from this cartoon in my head since I first saw it in 1985, so I felt like I was seeing an old friend when Lambert appeared onscreen. Watching him protect his mother from an evil wolf brought a tear to my eye...just as it did when I was eight.
To round out the collection, "Chicken Little" announces that the sky is falling, "Three Blind Mouseketeers" avoid overly elaborate murder plots through dumb luck, and finally, "Elmer Elephant" wins the heart of a birthday girl at one of the cutest cartoon parties you'll ever see. As a whole, the cartoons complement each other nicely, and seem to represent the same era - no jarring leaps from modern animation to rickety black and white reels that seem to have come over on the Mayflower.
